Emelianenko and Rogers on the mat

Emelianenko dominating Rogers at the 1:48 mark

The man some are calling the best fighter in the history of mixed martial arts proved himself worthy of that title on Saturday night. Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko beat Minnesota’s Brett Rogers by second-round technical knockout at the M-1 Global event Strikeforce.

Emelianenko landed a mean right-hook that put Rogers on the mat and then followed up with a flurry of punches to Rogers’ face. Referee John McCarthy ended the fight in the second round at 1:48.

The Russian heavyweight said this of Rogers’ performance:

“If Brett would like to have a rematch, why not?”

It wasn’t an easy win for Emelianenko. Rogers landed a combination of punches early in the match that left the champ bloodied for the majority of the match.

Rogers (6-foot-5, 265lbs) tried to keep the fight off the mat to best use his weight and height advantage over Fedor (6-foot, 235lbs). The Russian, however, turned the tables on Rogers by landing a number of uppercuts and not relying on his ground-game.

Rogers said of the fight:

“I doubted myself a little bit. I should have thrown my hand a lot more. That’s the reason I failed today.”

One thing is for sure; Rogers didn’t give Emelianenko the victory easily. Want to see for yourself? Check out the video below.
